New Approach Bowling Academy

New Approach Bowling Academy

New Approach Bowling Academy focuses on all aspects of the game. It is through this program that we strive to enhance each bowler’s physical and mental game, both on and off the lanes.

Why choose New Approach Bowling Academy?

At New Approach Bowling Academy, we understand the challenges facing the player to improve and excel. Our clinics are designed to not only help the player understand the game, but teach them to accurately execute shots when on the lanes. We focus on both physical and mental fundamentals, as well as practice drills and tools. It is through these methods that the player will not only improve their performance, but increase their potential to master their sport.

Each clinic is led by Tom and his team of experienced coaches. Each coach is not only well-versed in the sport, but has undergone hours of coaching instruction along side Tom, assuring that each of our coaches live and breath the program and our methods. In order to maintain a continuous flow of instruction and practice, six bowlers are assigned to each coach.

Clinic Instruction

Our five hour programs are structured with the consideration of varying skill levels of both Junior and Adult bowlers. We have created a variety of clinics geared towards not only entry level bowlers, but for high school, Junior Gold, colleges and adult players as well. While each clinic is tailored to meet the bowlers needs, the fundamentals remain constant.
Each program focuses on:
  • Fit evaluation – Prior to the start of any instruction, proper fit will be discussed and bowler’s individual balls will be checked by our staff. It is at this time that suggestions may be made in regards to span and pitches. In the event that an individual’s ball does not fit them correctly, demo balls in varying weights and spans will be available for use by bowlers. In the event that a demo ball is used, interchangeable thumb slugs and inserts will be used to accurately fit the bowler.
  • Alignment – Bowlers will learn the basics of lane play, arm-swing, foot pattern and launch angle.
  • Timing – Bowlers will build on their knowledge of alignment and work on coordinating their arm-swing and footwork.
  • Targeting and spare shooting – Bowlers will learn to create the correct angles for a variety of spare shooting.
  • Release – Bowlers will learn a number of tools, techniques and practice drills for developing a more effective release.
  • Mental approach – Aside from the physical game, bowlers will discuss the mental approach. Bowlers will discuss a variety of topics that are critical to the mental game. These topics include pre-shot routine, confidence, concentration, focus, mental toughness, visualization, decision making and post-shot routine.
